Hola there,

Mirage

Mirage (in desert) is caused due to total internal reflection of the light from boundary of rarer medium. On a hot day in desert, the earth surface is hot hence air close to the earth surface is rarer than the upper air. When a ray travels from the top of a tree to the earth, it is travelling from denser to rarer medium, hence may suffer total internal reflection at any layer, hence we can observe the image of treatment, without there being water.
Some of us might have noticed that while moving in a bus during a hot summer day, a distant patch of road, especially on a highway, appears to be wet. But we do not find any evidence of wetness when we reach that spot. This is also due to mirage.

Hope this helps....:)

Heya!!!

Here's your answer friend,

When appearing on roads due to hot asphalt,
it is often referred to as a highway mirage.
Convection causes the temperature of the air to vary and the variation between the hot air at the surface of the road and denser cool air above it creates a gradient in refractive index of air.
Mirage happens when the ground is very hot
and the air is cool. The hot ground warms a layer of air just above the ground.
When the light moves through the cold air and into the layer of hot air is refracted. A layer of very warm air near the ground refracts the light from the sky nearly into the U shaped bend.

Hope it helps you : )
