Although excessive yawning is usually attributed to being sleepy or bored, it may be a symptom of an underlying medical problem. Certainconditions can cause a vasovagal reaction, which results in excessive yawning. During a vasovagal reaction, there is increased activity in the vagus nerve.

Yawning is associated with the stretching of many muscles on the face, respiratory tract, at times also the limbs and trunk.

This leads to the transmission of a signal to the brain, the part that is involved in experiencing good sensations.

However, when a person is stressed or anxious, he/she faces a difficulty in yawning.

It is because during a stressed situation, an individual finds difficulty in relaxing completely and hence acquiring the required muscular stretches for yawning to take place.
