Answer:

In the reaction the Sodium atom loses an electron to the Chlorine atom. Thus it has one more proton than it has electron and has a net positive charge of +1 and it is now called the Sodium ion.

Hey there!

We know that, the atomic number of sodium is 11, so it have 11 protons as well as electrons. Its electronic configuration be 2,8,1.

But to complete its valence shell it can loss its one Electron and form sodium ion [Na+].
