What is the reason of melting fuse to protect circuit...

When the excessive current flows from the circuit it can cause short circuit but when fuse is inserted in circuit it breaks itself to prevent the short circuit.

as we know that the heat produced in a conductor is directly proportional to the sqaure of current passing through it . when higher current passes through conductor , fuse gets heated ,as a result it melt it down due to low melting point and due to fusion of fuse wire
