an object can be in motion in relation to one object while it can be addressed in relation to another object at the same instant of time.
1.when we are moving in a car we are changing our position with respect to our surrounding objects, the objects appear to be in motion.
2.a person sitting in a moving car is at rest with respect to its surrounding of the car but it is in motion in respect to surroundings outside of the car.
from these examples it is clear that rest and motion are relative.
