One light year is almost six trillion miles. And an astronomical unit is the average distance between the earth and the sun. So the distance to the sun is by definition one AU. A parsec is the distance at which one astronomical unit subtends an angle of one second of arc.

Answer:

Astronomical unit (AU) and light year are both unit of length used for measuring large astronomical distances.

Explanation:

The definition of 1 astronomical unit is distance between the earth and the centre of our Solar system (not sun).

Whereas,

1 light is equal to the distance covered by light in one complete year. This is used as a unit of length because the speed of light is 3×10^8 m/s which means light cover 3×10^8 meters in just one second. Therefore the distance it covers in one year is the definition of the unit length 1 light year.

Since, both AU and light year are very large distances. They are both used as a unit on length to measure astronomical distances such as Distances between planets, stars, galaxies etc.
