The human body consists of more than 25,000 genes and total component of these genes.i.e.Genome is stored in chromosomes which are super condensed form of DNA.These genes are responsible for heredity and production of protein. But some of the genes transform into oncogenes (due to various factors)  responsible for causing cancer. These genes damage the structure of DNA and transform other cells too into cancerous cells.

DNA is the hereditary center that contains all the information that is to be transferred to the daughter cells or other cells that are dividing. If any mutation occurs in the nucleotide of the DNA, it is passed onto the newly forming cells. These mutations can be caused either by the environment or any other carcinogen. Cancer is uncontrolled cell division. If the alpha particles strike DNA, it may cause structural changes in the DNA that spread in the body causing lesions and cancer.
