Speed is often used to mean velocity but force relates to acceleration.

Newton's Second Law states that force equals mass times acceleration.

Force = mass x acceleration.

The higher the force applied to an object the greater will be its acceleration. When the force is no longer applied the object continues at that velocity (speed) until acted on by an external force (which will decelerate it) External forces include wind resistance, friction, gravity.
