A jagir was a revenue assignment for the mansabdars. The mansabdars had the right to collect revenue from a jagir but they could not reside in or administer the jagir.

The Mansabdari system  was introduced during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar.(This system was  also followed during the times of Babur and Humayun  but a lot of changes were implemented during Akbar's reign)

Mansabdar was a government official in Mughal administrative services.

Mansab means rank or position given to that particular official.

Jagir was the land alloted to a official  to rule and collect taxes from the residents of that area.

Features of the The Mansabdari system :

{} The mansabdari system was not hereditary, so the meritorious person was eligible for it.

{}Increased military efficiency:: the mansabdar had to maintain horses, elephants, camels and carts.

{} A mansabdar was paid his salary in cash.
