What is the relationship between mutation, natural selection, and adaptation?

Sometimes cells mutate to form a stronger gene. This gene will be passed on in generations because its strength will result in the animals with the gene surviving. This is natual selections which means that the strongest animals will continue to survive. Essentially, survival of the fittest. This also plays into adaptation because animals which are able to adapt the best to their environment are most likley to continue living,
