Bhagat Singh was a soldier in India's freedom struggle. During his graduation at National College which was founded by the great reformist and freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat drew huge inspiration. He escaped the fate of early marriage by running away from home and joined Noujawan Bharat Sabha, an youth organization. Here he met other revolutionaries like Chandra Shekhar Azad and B. K. Dutt. Bhagat took up the cause of spreading political awareness and circulated handouts & newspapers with the help of other revolutionaries. These were circulated in all different languages to reach the masses and used to be a punishable offence at the time. Meanwhile resistance against the British was on rise and political parties in India didn't hesitate to display the same. For this reason, British Government appointed a commission in 1928 under Sir John Simon to make a report on political activities. No Indian member was included in this.
Bhagat Singh's plot to kill Scott
In opposition to Simon's Commission, all political parties boycotted the commission and Lala Lajpat Rai with Pandit Madan Mohan started a silent protest march in Lahore. Scott banned all processions and hit Lala Lajpat Rai repeatedly with lathi that caused his death. Bhagat Singh was an eye witness to this act and was deeply affected. He decided to take revenge and kill Scott but due to some identity misunderstanding killed a junior officer instead. Chandra Shekhar Azad, Rajguru and Sukhdev were all partners in the act.

Bhagat was hiding from the death punishment inflicted upon him due to killing the British junior officer and adding to the Indians' sufferings from the repressive measures of the British, there was a Defence of India Act in the process of getting passed as an ordinance that would further empower the police to stop processions & arrest people on the basis of mere suspicion. Bhagat Singh decided to come ahead by making an appearance in the Central Assembly Hall where the ordinance passing process was taking place. He decided to publicize the cause of freedom by throwing a bomb and court arrest then. Batukeshwar Dutt and he bombed the Assembly Hall corridor and shouted the slogans of 'Inquilab Zindabad '. Their act attracted mass support in the goal in Indian freedom.
