What is the role of concentrated sulphuric acid in making ethane from ethanol?

Ethanol can be converted to ethene in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid used as a dehydrating agent. It is called as dehydration reaction. b) Ethene can be converted to ethane by addition of hydrogen molecule. It is known as hydrogenation reaction.
