What is the role of Hilum and micropile in a seed? What is the function of micropilum?

The micropyle helps in absorbing the water at the time of germination of the seed. It is through this micropyle the root emerges out at the time of germination of the seed
Hilum is a scar or mark left on a seed coat by the former attachment to the ovary wall or to the funiculus (which in turn attaches to the ovary wall). On a bean seed, the hilum is called the "eye".
