UNDER DEMOCRACY ,GOVERNMENT IS THE POLITICAL PARTY ORIENTED.DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT CANNOT RUM WITHOUT POLITICAL PARTIES.MAJORITY PARTY FORMS THE GOVERNMENT AND MINORITY PARTIES PLAY THE ROLE OF THE OPPOSITION WHICH IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT. THE OPPOSITION PARTY GETS A CHANCE TO RUN THE GOVERNMENT PROVIDED IT PROVES ITS WORTH TO THE PUBLIC . THE ROLE OF OPPOSITION PARTIES MAY BE SUMMED UP UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADS:
1.CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM OF THE GOVERNMENT : The primary function of the opposition is to criticise the wrong steps taken by the ruling party. It appraises the masses about their political rights.
2.RESTRICTION ON ARBITRARINESS OF RULING PARTY:Opposition party restricts the dictatorial behaviour of ruling party.
3.SAFEGUARD LIBERTY AND RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE : Opposition monitors all the activities of the ruling party.If the ruling party in power tries to curtail public rights and limit its right of liberty , the opposition comes froward to safeguard them.
4.EXPRESSION OF PUBLIC OPINION : Responsibility to air the public grievances and get them redressed by the party is the primary duty of opposition.By doing so, it fulfils its duty and simultaneously gains public applause.
5.WELL PREPARED TO FORM THE GOVERNMENT : Opposition party is well versed in the art of forming the government for its eventuality is always present in democracy.If party in power gets defeated on the floor of the house or resigns, under that situation opposition has to from the government.
