Rivers are said to be lifeline of country. In Indian culture ,we did not see rivers as just water bodies. We see them as life-giving gods or goddesses. From the beginning of civilisation rivers play a great role in the economy of any country.

Many civilisations flourished in river plain. Availability of fresh water is essential for life at any place.Rivers carry water and nutrients to areas all around the earth. They play a very important part in the water cycle, acting as drainage channels for surface water. Rivers drain nearly 75% of the earth's land surface.
