The placenta acts to provide oxygen and nutrients to the fetus, whilst removing carbon dioxide and other waste products. It metabolises a number of substances and can release metabolic products into maternal and/or fetal circulations.

----->HERE YOUR ANSWER <-----

In the past, placenta calcification was only identified after the birth when theplacenta (also called the afterbirth) was physically examined by the doctor or midwife. ... It was said that theplacenta was simply ageing – a normal phenomenon when baby is due or late.

The placenta serves three main functions: Attach the fetus to the uterine wall. Provide nutrients to the fetus. Allow the fetus to transfer waste products to the mother's blood.

^^HOPE IT IS HELPFUL ^^
