what is the safe method of diluting an acid with water? Should acid be put in water or vice versa?

Always acid should be put into water and not vice versa because if you put water in an acid, acid being highly reactive (and harmful) might spurt out on your face or your hands, depending on the strength of the acid, and cause burns.
