The scientific reason : It is winter time and skin will go dry. During Sankranti, people in Karnataka prepare a mixture of ground nut, dry coconut, til, jaggery, and fried gram (Ellu). This is distributed among relatives and consumed. This mixture helps body to fight cold and also the recuperate the oil lost from the body due to winter.
