what is the significance of Ammonite in the study of evolution of organisms?

The ammonites belong to the phylum mollusca and were marine animals. These organisms evolved rapidly and hence make excellent guide fossils , Thier distribution is worldwide and are found easily hence they are very good fossils and contribute much in study of evolution. @_@
