When there is a lot of data in an Excel sheet, it is easier for the human eye to distinguish in between the rows and columns when there is color banding.
The option for banding rows and columns helps in creating alternating bands of colored or shaded rows and columns.
These colored bands apply a background color to the rows and columns in which they are applied and make it easy for reading and understanding the data in an Excel worksheet when there is a lot of data in many rows and columns.
The banding of the rows and columns can be done according to one’s requirement by using the commands from “Conditional Formatting” option.

Bands are generally used in Ms excel for various reasons.
They provide easy demonstration of the required data.
By using color band it is easy to distinguish between different data in excel sheet.
These bands are of different colors having just background color and not affecting the data , makes the data easily visible and seen.
Moreover, in the presence of excess data ,the required and main data can be easily separated or distinguished from other data.
