Answer
The mechanism of working of bulliform cells can be explained as: During drought, the loss of water through vacuoles induces the reduced bulliform cells to allow the leaves of many grass species to close as the two edges of the grass blade fold up toward each other.

Significance of bulliform cells:
Bulliform cells are found in epidermal layer of cell of leaf. They are found along with veins modifying themselves in to large colourless and empty cell. Their main function is to store the water.
It results in rolling of leaf to prevent the water loss due to transcription under stress. Hence they are responsible for regulation of transcription process by which they prevent the excess loss of water. They are mainly in many monocot species.
