cellwall provided rigidity And turgidity to plant cell. helps in diffusion off gases in and out of the cell. helps in keep shape of the plant cell. cell wall provide structural support to the plant cell

the cell wall is a tough, rigid layer that surroundes the cell membrane to provide structural support and protection.it is non - living and freely permeable. it is only present in plant cell.
functions:
1. it permits the plant cell to become turgid.as water enters the vacuole through osmosis, the plant cell expands. the cell wall has to be strong enough to resist this expansion and so enables the cell to become turgid.
2. it is freely permeable to water and substances in solution.
3. it provides mechanical support to the cell.
