rod cells - are photoreceptive cells that perceive the intensity of light. They help to view in dark and thus are called scotopic cells.

cone cells- are another photoreceptive cells that detect the colour of the light by their wavelength. they are called photopic cells as they help to distinguish colours. at night or in dark they cannot distinguish colour other than shades of grey to black.

blind spot- it is the region of eye near the yellow spot where the optic nerves leave the eye. here no photoreceptive cell is present and thus no image is perceived here thus the name blind spot.
