Actually, the quantum number l (total orbital angular momentum) has more effect on the shape, and m mostly has to do with the orientation of the orbital (what axis it's aligned with). Because electrons are charged, their angular momentum (and their spin) both give rise to a magnetic moment.

Magnetic Quantum number => The magnetic quantum number gives us orientation of quantum number. A sub shells in an atom suppose to be compose of several orbital. The magnetic quantum number (m) tells in which orbital an electron lies and it is depend on the Azimuthal Quantum number. It's value is (-l) to (+l).
