◼Meiosis is the cell division of the reproductive gametes.
▶It only happens during reproductive age which is 12th-13th years in girls and 13-14th year in boys.
▶In this four daughter cells with half chromosomes are formed.
▶The number of chromosomes are halved in the gametes so that after fertilisation original number of chromosomes can be maintained.
Like, a reproductive cell have 46 chromosomes so after fertilisation the chromosomes will be halved it means it will have 23 chromosomes after fertilisation.
▶It helps in mixing up of the parental genes ,when during the reduction in cell division as they seperate from the homologous pairs.
▶It helps in mixing up of paternal characteristics ,when the maternal and paternal chromosomes are separating, the chromatid material gets exchanged between the two memebers of homologous pair which results in variation.
