Five significance of mitosis are: -

(a) Somatic cells are formed by mitosis. Therefore, mitosis is essential for growth.

(b) An overgrown somatic cell is induced to divide so that mitosis help in  maintaining a proper surface/ volume ratio.

(c) It is the method of multiplication of unicellular organism.

(d) Mitosis produces multicellular condition.

(f)  It is a mechanism for replacing old or worn out cells.
