Let the total mass of the compound be 100
Mass of carbon = 80g
Mass of Hydrogen = 20 g
Moles of carbon = 80÷12 = 6.67
Moles of Hydrogen = 20÷1 =20
Ratio
Carbon = 6.67÷6.67 = 1
Hydrogen = 20÷6.67=3
Simplest / Empirical formula = CH3 (Molar Mass 15)
Molecular Formula = C2H6 (Molar Mass 30)
Mass of carbon = 80g
Mass of Hydrogen = 20 g
Moles of carbon = 80÷12 = 6.67
Moles of Hydrogen = 20÷1 =20
Ratio
Carbon = 6.67÷6.67 = 1
Hydrogen = 20÷6.67=3
Simplest / Empirical formula = CH3 (Molar Mass 15)
Molecular Formula = C2H6 (Molar Mass 30)
