Gas Exchange in Plants. Plants obtain the gases they need through their leaves. They require oxygen for respiration and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. The gases diffuse into the intercellular spaces of the leaf through pores, which are normally on the underside of the leaf - stomata.

Gaseous exchange in plants can take place through two places, leaves as well as stem. Plants take in carbon dioxide through tiny pores present on the underside of the plant whose opening and closing id regulated by the guard cells. Whereas the hardy, woody stem of the plant exchanges gases through the lenticels.
