$81<90<100$

$9^2<90<10^2$

$9^2<90<(9.5)^2$

Because square of 9.5 is much closer to 90  rather than 100

$(9.1)^2<90<(9.5)^2$

Because square of 9.1 is much closer to 90  rather than 81

$(9.4)^2<90<(9.5)^2$

Because square of 9.4 is much closer to 90  rather than square of 9.1

Square of 9.5 is much closer to 90 rather than square of 9.4

Therefore,

$\sqrt{90}=9.5$(approximately)
