Although the country's constitution says women have equal status to men,women are powerless and are mistreated inside and outside the home. India is a society where the male is greatly revered. Thereforewomen, especially the young girls, get very little respect and standing in this country.

According to the latest census carried out by the government of India, there are 933females for 1000males.

There was a period where there was female dominance in India during indoaryan period. but later because of female foeticides dowry trafficking and taboo of remarrying of widows, no of females in India count has been reduced.

But the government now has started spreading awareness about the importance of educating girl child and increases punishments for female foeticides and trafficking.

Abolished the practice of sathi sahagaman and encouraging widow marriages.

Due to these practices, there is a hope that the previous stage for women will come back.
