Structure of Sclerenchyma :
- These cells are dead cells and do not have protoplasm.
- They are long, narrow, thick and lignified cells.
- The cell wall is thickened due to lignin that hardens it. They have pointed ends. The may be from 1 mm - 550 mm in length in different plants.
- The cells are so thick that the cell cavity or lumen is lost or is absent.
