"The Little Girl"

'The Little Girl' is a story of a young girl who is very much afraid of her father. But gradually, she gets to know about him and creates an understanding with him.

The little girl whose name is 'Kezia' take a sight of relief , When she hears the sound of her father's carriage growing Fainter. When Kezia fatger comes back home , Kezia can't even muster the courage to take with him.Her grandmother always encourages her to mix up with her parents.

As her father's birthday is going to arrive , her grandmother suggests her to present a pincushion on his birthday.She advices her to make it by her own hands.Kezia does so , but she does not find anything to stuff in it.At last she finds pieces of paper on her father's table.Sge tears them and stuff them into the pincushion.

That evening , there is much Hue and cry when father is not able to get his important documents . Unluckily , those documents have torn off by Kezia.She explains it to her father.Her father beats ger with a ruler.She starts to cry and thinks why god makes fathers.One day , her mother get hospitalized and her grandmother is also with her mother .Kezia is all alone at home. Only Alice the cook was there with her .In night, Kezia is alone in her room and starts to scream in her nightmare.When she wakes up , she finds her father standing there.He takes her in his lap and consoles her.Kezia finds a change father.Now, she comes to understand that her father works too hard to run the family.She comes to understand that the father also needs care and attention.A new understanding takes place in Kezia's heart and mind.

The theme of the story is the relationship between children and their parents and the writer Katherine Mansfield wants to tell us that children share a very important bond of love with their parents. Although when children are small, when they are young they do not feel that their parents love them because their parents are strict and many actions of the parents seems unjustified. But as children grow up they realise that all the acts done by their parents were beneficial for them. The parents were concerned for them and beneath the strictness lies a heart full of love for the children. And this bond of love between parents and their children has been highlighted through this story.
