Given :- What is the surface area of a sphere formed by joining four identical solid quarter spheres, if the surface area of each one of them is 32 cm² ??

A) 32cm² .

B) 64cm².

C) 80cm².

D) 128cm² .

Solution :-

One quarter of a sphere contains :-

  • contains 2 plane surfaces .
  • Area of each plane surface = (πr²/2) + ( πr²/2)
  • one fourth of curved surface of sphere = (4πr²) /4 = πr².

So,

  • Surface area of each quarter of a sphere = (πr²/2) + (πr²/2) + πr² = 2πr² .

then,

  • Total surface area of 4 such quarter = 4 * 2πr² = 8πr².

we have given that, surface area of each quareter is 32 cm².

So,

→ 2πr² = 32

then,

→ Total surface area of 4 such quarter = 4 * (2πr²) = 4 * 32 = 128 cm² .(Option D) (Ans.)

Hence, the surface area of a sphere formed by joining.

Hence, the surface area of a sphere formed by joining.four identical solid quarter spheres is 128 cm².
