The theme is about friendship and trust and how a friend and happiness of friend should be considered above one self. No one can make a friend with out others will and no one should do something that will hurt the one that truly cares about you.

The theme of the story “Princess September” by W. Somerset Maugham is about Freedom and Friendship.
If we try to trap a bird in a golden cage and ask it to sing sweet songs. It may sing, but the song won't be too sweet. This is so, because the bird don't know the value of money and gold, it only know the value of Freedom and Peace.
Friendship can't happen in a beautiful cage. It can only happen with beautiful moments.
