Hey there!! Here's the answer
As the title itself suggests, the writer Jerome K Jerome has knitted the chapter well around the theme of packing. The writer has just tried to entertain the readers with the humourous packing of the three friends. It even happens with people around us that they can't do packing. The writer has conveyed the same thing through this chapter which is an extract from the novel- Three men in boat
Hope it helps you.

packing is a light-hearted narrative intended to amuse the readers . the way of the three friends do the packing is highly in enterining. if the narrator being forgetfull by Nature forget to pack one thing or another his two friends George and Harris simply make fools of themselves. they commit one mistake after another in this process the things to be packed. the theme of the lesson is that packing of for a journey is serious matter and it should be done very carefully lest you should forget to take those things will you have which might be needed on a holiday tour.
