Greenwich mean time, is the time observed at the royal observatory in Greenwich, located in London.
b. It is the Prime Meridian of Greenwich which is 0° longitude , which indeed has the sun at the highest point in the sky, and is used as the main point of reference for navigation, for calculating time.
c. From Greenwich, the time difference is one hour for each 15 degrees of longitude
d. As , India has chosen 82 30' as standard meridian and has taken its local time as the standard time of the country, therefore we have to multiply it by as around the earth there are 360 longitudes. Each longitude has 4 minutes time difference.
e. This comes out be 330 minutes that is 5 hours and 30 minutes.
f. Thus, the time difference difference between Indian standard time and Greenwich meridian is that of 5 hours 30 minutes.
g. IST is ahead of Greenwich time.
Hope this will help.. ✌
