the time taken by a simple pendulum to complete one oscillation, that is, from it's initial position to the mean then, to extreme and finally, then from mean to it's initial position again.

An ideal simple pendulum consist of a point mass suspended by a flexible, weightless, inelastic string from a fixed support.
theta = arc / radius = X/ L
for small angles, sin theta = theta
mgcos theta balances tension on the string. mgsin theta makes the displacement.
If the acceleration of the bob is 'a'.
ma = - mgsin theta = - mg theta
= - mg X/ L
a = - g/ L .................(1)
Acceleration of a body in simple harmonic motion is also
a = - w^2 X.................(2)
from (1) and (2)
- w^2x = - g/ L X
w^2 = g/ L
w. = 2π/ T = √ g/L
T = 2π √ L/ g.
