What is the total thickness of the atmosphere of the Earth? Please don't google it, there is wrong information. If the thickness of the exosphere is 10000 km then how the total thickness of the atmosphere is 480 kilometers thick?

Answer:

The main layers within the atmosphere are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesophere and thermosphere. The thickness of the atmosphere, depending upon the definition, is between 100 and 10,000 kilometers.

Answer:

The thickness of the atmosphere is a variable value. For example, when the Space Shuttle (or other manned spacecraft like Apollo and Mercury) first begin to notice atmospheric drag is approximately 120 km (75 miles). I say approximately since the atmosphere gets a little thicker when the atmosphere is warmer and a little thinner when it is colder. However, the atmospheric thermosphere extends out to 700-800 km and the atmospheric exosphere extends out to 10,000 km (6,200 miles). The exosphere is the earth’s atmosphere furthest limit but the density is very, very low and the gas molecules can travel hundreds of kilometers without colliding with each other; however, the aurora borealis and aurora Australia can occur in the lower part of the exosphere. Most satellites orbiting the Earth are in the exosphere.
