Meristematic tissue consist of actively dividing cells this is found in regions such as the tips of stems or roots and lead to increase in length and thickness of the plant this cells are spherical oval polygonal and rectangular and have thin cells walls.

Cells in meristematic tissues have special characteristics that make them unique when compared to cells in mature, specialized plant tissue. Cells within meristematic tissue are self-renewing,  that is every time they divide, one new cell remains meristematic, while the second becomes a specialized mature cell.
