Its unique property is catenation and its tetra valency,ie, valecy of 4.
Catenation is the property of an element in which it links itself with its atoms to form long ,countinous straight or branched chains. Carbon exhibits this property to the maximum extent. These 2 properties of carbon gave us another branch of chemistry that is, organic chemistry. Where hundreds of new oraganic compounds are added to the list of organic compounds every year. Organic compounds find there use in every day life to a very large extent.
