The top post in the Indian Navy during wartime is that of Admiral of the Fleet He is basically in charge of the entire fleet and reports to the President of India. During times of peace, the highest rank is of Admiral.
In the Indian Air Force, the equivalent is Marshall of the Air Force during times of war and Air Chief Marshall during peacetime.
As for practice, I'm assuming you intend to reach these ranks in the Armed Forces. Since the induction of the National Defence Academy, all CoS (Chief of Staff) have been alumni of this institution. To join, you must be a 10+2 student and clear a written exam following which you'll have to face a panel of experts who will test various aspects of your personality and judge whether or not you're fit for service.
So to reach this rank, you should try and crack the NDA exam and work your way up from there
