The human appendix had been proposed to be a vestigial structure, a structure that has lost all or most of its original function or that has evolved to take on a new function. The suggestion was that it is the shrunken remnant of the cecum thought to have been present in a remote ancestor of humans.

The exact use and function of appendix isn't known yet! However it's believed that it may help us recover form diarrhea, or any infection, or inflammation of the small and large intestine. Some clinicians and scientists believes that it's a vestigial organ.
