Fuses are sacrificial devices used to protect much more expensive electrical components from the damaging effects of overcurrent. Fuses consist of a low-resistance metal or wire that is used to close a circuit.

Fuse wire some like a normal cable is consist many wire. But thats very very thin wire. You want to protect the system according to current if you choose a fuse accordingly. If the system draws too much current, the system will not see the damage and the thin wires in the fuse are disconnected. Therefore fuse wire is disposable.
