Kink prevents the mercury level from falling. Due to this, a person can read the temperature even after it is taken away from the body... This helps us to read body temperature accurately...

Kink in the Mercury thermometer helps to prevents the falling of mercury present in capillary tube into bulb. It ensures that the user takes the correct reading of temperature.
