It is a symbiotic type of relationship. Both these fungi help in forming a colony in the living root tissue at the time of plant growth. Using mycorrhization, a plant can get minerals like copper and zinc and phosphates from the soil. These fungi derive nutrients like sugars from the root of a plant. Mycorrhizae also help in increasing the surface area of a plant root thereby helping it to develop into a healthy plant.
