Atomic no. of Oxygen is 8 so its electronic configuration will be 2,6
As there are 6 valance electrons in the last shell which is a greater number and cannot be the valency of oxygen we subtract it with 8.
So, 8-6= 2.
And there you go that is the valency of Oxygen 2! :))

Atomic Number of Oxygen = 8
Electronic configuration of Oxygen
= 2,6
we know that L shell has 8 electrons
so in order to complete the shell with 2 electrons, oxygen needs 2 electrons
Hence it's valency is 2
