Answer:

The square root of 5, in mathematical terms √5, means any same two numbers, which if multiplied together should again give 5. F.e, root of 4 is 2, because 2 multiplied by itself gives 4. (2·2=4)

To solve the root you can always use a calculator :P but whats the fun in that. Lets look at an old fashion (maybe less accurate) way to calculate the root of 5. But this also requires a calculator as we will see.

Because 5 isn't a number which can be resulted by multiplying two same natural numbers, therefore we already know that we will need two decimal numbers (uggghh) to get 5. But which decimal numbers?

First we need to determine the boundary which can give 5. Lets start from 1 and see,

1 · 1 = 1 (way off)

2 · 2 = 4 (yay we are close)

3 · 3 = 9 (oops we are too big)

So from the above we know that the two numbers which can possibly give 5 must be between 2 and 3. Hence, you go further,

2.1 · 2.1 = 4.41

2.2 · 2.2 = 4.84

2.3 · 2.3 = 5.29 (ahhh big again)

Now we have achieved a 5, but it is not enough. We require accuracy! hence now we go between 2.2 and 2.3, because our answer is hiding between these two.

2.21 · 2.21 = 4.8841

2.22 · 2.22 = 4.9284

2.23 · 2.23 = 4.9729

2.24 · 2.24 = 5.0176

Voila! Now we have achieved 5.0176, which if rounded would give us 5. It is not the most accurate answer but still its reasonable, otherwise you can keep going and you will keep getting an accurate answer.
