2(3y+6+3)=196

distribute 2*3y, 2 and 6, and 2 and 3 which gives you 6y+12+6=196

then subtract 6 from 196 which leaves you with 190

then add the two sums 6y and 12 and divide this total by 190

or 6y = 180 - 18
or y = 162/6
or y = 27
