☺.. he Allies (The British Empire and Commonwealth, The United States of America, The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Republic of China, and many others), defeated the Axis Powers (Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Italy). The war is argued when it actually began, but most historians say it started when Adolf Hitler, German Chancellor (dictator), invaded Poland, on September 1st, 1939. The British Empire and Commonwealth, Republic of France, and Poland all declared war on Germany but the German military overwhelmed and conquered the Poles, Danes, Norwegians, Dutch, Belgians, Czechs, Yugoslavians, Greeks, and French. By June of 1940, the only global and European power left fighting Germany was Britain and her Empire, which was led by Winston Churchill. However, Hitler was unable to destroy the British Airways Force and Navy to invade, so he and the Italians (Mussolini was the Italian dictator) decided to invade the British colonies in North Africa and invade the USSR (ruled by Stalin) for oil. By 1941, Japan, who had been at war with China since 1935, decided that they needed oil to continue their invasion of China. The Japanese decided to strike the American fleet in Hawaii in order to prevent a counterattack from the US against Japan after they invaded the British East Indies for oil. The British we're entirely focused on Germany, and had little defenses in the East Indies. So on December 7th, 1941, Japan bombed Pear Harbor, forcing the US to enter the war. By 1945, the Allies had successfully repelled the Germans and Italians out of North Africa, and had conquered Italy, liberated France, Belgium, Holland, Philippines, Burma, Singapore, parts of the East Indies, large swaths of China, and multiple Pacfic Islands. The Germans surrendered after Adolf Hitler committed suicide, and the Sovits marched into Berlin (the German capital) in early May of 1945. The Japanese surrendered in September of 1945, after the United States and scientist from the UK, developed and built an atomic bomb. Two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan and they surrendered afterwards to the US, UK, and USSR.
