Heya,
Hypothalamus is present in Diencephalon of fore brain. It consists of several masses of nerve cell bodies which control the involuntary functions like hunger, thirst, sexual desire and body temperature.
It maintains the body temperature at 37°C by means of a complex thermostat mechanism. Due to which it is called the thermoregulatory centre of body.
It also secrets neruohormones called releasing and inhabiting hormones which control the secretion of tropic hormones from anterior lobe of pitutary gland. So, the hypothalamus is an important link between nervous and endocrine system.
Hope this helps....:)
